Williams has confirmed it will give development driver Alex Lynn more track time in an F1 car during the in-season test in Barcelona.

The majority of teams will remain in Barcelona for two days of testing on the Tuesday and Wednesday following the Spanish Grand Prix, with only Sauber so far announcing it will not take part due to a lack of new parts and no suitable driver to test.

With teams having to run a driver who has not raced in more than two grands prix for two of the four days of in-season testing this year, Williams has confirmed GP2 driver Lynn will get his first taste of the FW38 on the opening day of the test. Felipe Massa will then drive on day two.

Lynn has previously driven for Williams during testing, driving last year's FW37. The British youngster's GP2 season gets underway during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, with Lynn saying his target is to win this year's title.

“You look at the season Stoffel [Vanoorne] had last year I’m not going to sit here and say I’ll do the same because it was pretty out of the ordinary!" Lynn said. "But fair enough he deserved all of those. I definitely just want to win loads of races and win the championship in a convincing manner, or just win it to be honest.

"At the end of the day there’s so many competitive drivers and I love the fact that the championship is so raw. It’s the best drivers, the best teams just all going at it. There’s no other politics, it’s just pure racing. That’s what I like. Usually the cream rises to the top and hopefully I can be that guy.”
