Williams development driver Alex Lynn hopes his latest outing for the team at Silverstone has improved his chance of graduating to Formula One next year.
The GP2 Series ace set the third fastest time on the opening day of the final in-season test at the British GP venue, racking up 54 laps in a rain-hit session. With Williams exploring a change at driver line-up, Lynn hopes his positive day at the wheel helps put him in the frame for a seat in 2017.
“This is another day completed: no incidents, no problems and I did a good job and compared very competitively with the race drivers in the runs I did,” he said.
“From my side, I’ve already said I feel ready to make this step up and today was another little tick in my experience book.”
Lynn is once again dovetailing his F1 commitment with a full campaign in the sport’s official series. Despite adding a third GP2 win to his resume on the opening weekend of the 2016 season in Barcelona, the 22-year-old has not had the smoothest campaign so far and currently sits ninth in the Drivers’ standings.
Asked whether his focus was on GP2 or securing more simulator time with Williams, Lynn replied: “I think to be honest, I need to get back to my usual programme with GP2 and keep my head down and crack on.”
