Coming into the last race, Schumacher was trailing his rival by 39 points but Mawson secured the crown and put himslef out of reach by winning the first of the three races scheduled at the Hockenheim venue.
The 17-year-old son of Michael Schumacher, competing in his second season of single-seater racing, was forced to start 23rd after a scrutineering issue with his onboard fire extinguisher exclided the youngster from qualifying.
Schumacher made up an impressive 17 places in the race but fell short of keeping his tile hopes alive with Van Amersfoort's Mawson securing his ninth win of the season.
