Red Bull looks to repeat its strong 2014 recovery after the Milton Keynes-based team experienced a trying start to the season in last weekend’s Australian Grand Prix.

Daniel Ricciardo lost an internal combustion engine in free practice and struggled with driveability issues throughout the race in Melbourne en route to a sixth place finish, a lap down from both Mercedes.

New team-mate Daniil Kvyat had an even tougher maiden grand prix outing with the Renault-powered squad. The 20-year-old Russian could not make it to the start following a gearbox issue that popped up during his formation lap.

However, Red Bull chief engineer Paul Monaghan believes the Austrian outfit can find inspiration in last year’s turnaround, when the team bounced back from a dismal start to eventually finish runners-up in the constructors' championship.

“Last year the progress we made from the third (pre-season) test to the first race was significant and one of our strengths is our development rate,” said Monaghan.

“We have the best team in place to repeat our success and we are working as hard as we can to improve as much as possible ahead of Malaysia.”

Both Ricciardo and Kvyat are equally determined to move on from the squad’s disappointing season-opener and secure a strong result in Sepang.

“I'm feeling good going to the next race, I know we have a lot of things to improve on and I'm optimistic that we can achieve some of those in Malaysia, which will give us some more performance,” declared the Aussie.

“After Australia, I wanted to leave the weekend behind me as soon as possible and start focusing on Malaysia,” added Kvyat. “We have good potential which we will be looking to use and hope to extract.”
