Jolyon Palmer says Nico Hulkenberg needs to follow Kevin Magnussen's approach to working together as team-mates at Renault next season.
Hulkenberg will replace Magnussen in 2017, with the Dane moving to Haas after turning down a new one-year deal with Renault. The French manufacturer has had a difficult first season back in the sport but Palmer says he and Magnussen worked together to improve the team, telling Hulkenberg he will need to do the same.
"I don’t know him really at the moment," Palmer said of Hulkenberg. "We will get to know each other a bit more over the winter, but he seems like a nice guy and the important thing is to be open as a team, because we need to work together.
"It is the same with Kevin this year, we have actually worked really well together and even though we have not put that much on the car, you can see the progression of the team is much better because we have been working well and getting more and more out of it. So we need to do the same with Nico and keep pushing as a team."
However, Palmer believes it will be a slightly different scenario between the two Renault drivers next season having felt he and Magnussen were fairly evenly matched in terms of experience this season.
"I see it different between me and Kevin who at the start of this year had a year’s experience at McLaren which on the one hand gave him an advantage in terms of experience, but I had already been with the team for a year. I am really happy to be staying with Renault because I know the team really well. I am happy that Nico is joining because he is experienced."
