F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone admits F1's current perilous state of affairs is being held hostage by the teams' inability to agree on cost cutting and change, expressing a concern also voiced by former FIA President Max Mosley.
"If it was up to me, I'd just go back to the V8 engines we had before," Ecclestone said in an interview with Sport Bild. "The fans loved the noise and the teams appreciated the fact that they weren't too expensive, while the races were also better to watch."
Bernie said he would feel wary of the sport's future if the wrong decisions were made by a handful of people. "When you make a mistake, you try to fix things but in this case we haven't even tried. We have meetings where we discuss useless things, and then decide to put off any decisions until the following week or month. We're waiting to see F1 disappear..."
Ecclestone vowed to improve the situation and plead F1's cause with the FIA.
"I'll try to get them involved, and if some people complain, let them do so. I can assure you that we will win this battle. I won't let the selfishness of some destroy F1."
