Such a spectacular start to the season sticks in the memory and makes Grosjean’s final score somewhat surprising, but the Frenchman still made a few too many mistakes during his first year at a new team. Performed brilliantly in the opening rounds, capitalising on the chances on offer for Haas, but as the car became harder to drive so too Grosjean lost confidence and his results suffered. Only edged Gutierrez 11-9 in qualifying and had a few too many off days in the middle of the season, with his score taking a big hit when he crashed on the way to the grid in Brazil, throwing away a great chance of serious points having qualified in seventh place.
