Williams ‘getting better and better’ - Smedley

Rob Smedley says it is “absolutely clear” how much Williams has been improving over the past two seasons.

Valtteri Bottas delivered Williams’ first podium of the year at the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend, with the result coming one race earlier than in 2014. While Ferrari has made a major step forward this season, Bottas was able to outpace Kimi Raikkonen after the Ferrari driver spun, and Smedley says the team’s ability to maximise opportunities is only getting stronger.

“We’re getting better and better aren’t we as a team? It’s absolutely clear,” Smedley said. “Every time we go out, or let’s say over the course of the last year and a half the team has just improved.

“Yes, we have blips and we step backwards but as a team we hold our hands up and we talk about it internally and we say what we’ve done well. More importantly we say what we haven’t done well and what we need to do better in the future.”

Smedley also says Williams has got itself in to the mindset where it can quietly go about its business with its rivals knowing it is a genuine threat.

“I don’t think we’re in a position where we need to talk up what we are going to deliver too much. What we do on the track and how many points we get on a Sunday afternoon should do that talking for us.”
