Williams missed chance to catch Ferrari - Massa

Felipe Massa believes Williams missed a big chance to close in on Ferrari at the British Grand Prix.

Both Williams drivers outqualified the two Ferraris and were comfortably ahead during the race at Silverstone before late rain saw Sebastian Vettel jump both in the pits to finish third. With Kimi Raikkonen finishing eighth, Williams scored three more points than Ferrari but Massa believes it should have had an even bigger return having run first and second early in the race.

"Maybe [Silverstone] was a very interesting race to catch Ferrari a little bit more than we did," Massa said. "Just scoring 3 points more than they did, perhaps it’s meant to be a little bit more than that because here we have a quicker car [than Ferrari] in qualifying and in the race, which never happened this season. So it shows that we are in the fight and it shows we can be in front of Ferrari."

With Williams updating its car in Austria, Massa is still confident the team can stay ahead of Ferrari in terms of pace but is wary of the 60-point deficit it faces in the constructors' championship.

“I think the last race we had the upgrade already on the car but it was not working in the proper way. We understood where to make it work and here everything that we tried to change from the last race to this race it worked and the car was quicker and better.

"So I think we showed one more time that we know how to develop a car from the first race to the last race. Unfortunately we are started a little bit behind and we are behind in the championship."
