Wolff wants ‘relentless’ second half from Mercedes

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff urges his team to be “relentless” over the second half of its 2015 campaign, starting with this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.

Coming off a dominant title-winning season, the defending champions have raised the bar even higher thanks to their all-conquering W06 Hybrid. Mercedes is yet to be defeated in qualifying and has won eight of the first 10 events, only relinquishing a pair of victories to Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

However, neither Lewis Hamilton nor team-mate Nico Rosberg featured on last month’s Hungarian Grand Prix podium, a first since the 2013 season finale held in Brazil.

“With 10 races down and nine to go, we enter the second half of the season with a stronger points total than at this stage last year,” said Wolff.

“And yet, our margin to the competition is actually smaller. There is never a moment you can take your foot off the gas and Hungary proved once again that any slip is an opportunity our rivals will grab with both hands.

“We have all enjoyed a chance to recharge over the summer, but we have also kept our minds focused on what lies ahead. There are still many chances to win or lose this battle and we must be relentless in our push to come out on top.”

Last year’s Belgian Grand Prix proved to be a turning point in the title fight between Hamilton and Rosberg, as the pair clumsily collided on Lap 2 at Les Combes.

Although the German survived the clash to finish second while the Briton did not score, the incident actually triggered Hamilton’s fightback that would see him win six of the seven remaining races to secure his second world crown.
