Sergio Perez thinks Force India can “get a good result” at the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix, as the Mexican expects Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps to play to the strengths of his B-spec VJM08.

Having successfully introduced its heavily upgraded car on home soil last month, the Silverstone-based squad then experienced a tough Budapest outing with both Perez and team-mate Nico Hulkenberg suffering spectacular mechanical failures in Hungary.

But the ex-McLaren racer remains confident Force India’s Mercedes-powered charger can return to the points-paying positions as early as this weekend.

“I think the characteristics of the track and its emphasis on power and top speed should suit our car,” said Perez. “You also have to expect wet weather at some point during the weekend so it could be quite unpredictable.

“We have shown some good pace in the last few races and we should be in a position to get a good result.”

Reigning Le Mans 24 Hours champion Hulkenberg, who is turning 28 today, echoes Perez’ sentiment and looks to see Force India recover from its Budapest hiccup.

“We go [to Belgium] hoping to bounce back from a tough race in Hungary,” he said. “The improvements we’ve made to the car will really help us in Spa, especially through the high-speed corners.

“The engine also plays a big part around the lap. We are competitive and I am confident we can start the second part of the season strongly.”

Last year’s Belgian Grand Prix saw Force India place its two cars in the top 10, with Perez and Hulkenberg respectively claiming eighth and 10th at Spa.
