With torrential rain hitting the Circuit of the Americas, the start of qualifying has been delayed by 30 minutes in an attempt to run the session on Saturday.

The heavy rain and high winds - pushed in to Texas as a result of Hurricane Patricia in Mexico - are forecast to continue throughout Saturday and in to Sunday morning. However, the weather is set to improve on Sunday afternoon, which should allow a race to take place.

FP2 was cancelled on Friday due to extreme weather conditions, but FP3 took place despite the circuit being closed to fans until an hour after the final practice session ended.

Lewis Hamilton set the pace in final practice, with the championship leader heading Sebastian Vettel. If qualifying is unable to take place on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, then the standings from FP3 will decide the grid for the race.

In that scenario, Nico Hulkenberg will start alongside Hamilton on the front row having finished the session in third place, with Sebastian Vettel and team-mate Kimi Raikkonen - who finished the session in ninth place - facing ten-place grid penalties for engine changes.
