Mick Schumacher's claiming of the FIA European F3 Championship last weekend has likely set the 19-year-old on a path to a prosperous motorsport future.

After a relatively low-profile start to his 2018 F3 campaign, Schumacher pulled out all the stops in the second part of the season to overhaul his rivals and conquer the title, showcasing through his dominant performances his skills and ability, and setting alight speculation about his future.

However, the son of the legendary Michael Schumacher has no intention of jumping the gun when it comes to moving up the ladder.

His F3 title has earned him a super-licence and therefore a free pass to Formula1, but his next step is likely to include a year in F2.

"Am I ready for Formula 1 I prefer to move forward gradually, step by step, preparing really well," he said after clinching his F3 title on Sunday.

"So it's important to always make the right decision," Mick added. "We will decide in the coming weeks."

F1, the pinnacle of motorsport, is obviously the young charger's ultimate goal, but his path to the summit won't be rushed.

"Every driver has the goal of being in Formula 1, it's the premier class and to stand up to the best there is the optimum," he added.

"We are talking to some teams and putting together the best strategy for next year."
