McLaren ‘working night and day’ to recover from poor 2015

McLaren Group CEO Ron Dennis says his team is “working night and day” in its bid to recover from a torrid 2015 campaign.

The British squad reunited with power unit supplier Honda and welcomed back double world champion Fernando Alonso to enter the year surrounded by much hype.

But instead of recapturing its glory days, McLaren ended up suffering one of its worst seasons amidst poor engine reliability and performance to finish a lowly ninth in the Constructors’ championship with 27 points.

Dennis insists the renewed alliance has all the ingredients to right the ship, while adding that teething problems have always been part of the game in any new technical association.

“We know what we’ve got to do to turn things around, and, as I speak, we’re working night and day to do just that,” he told the official F1 website.

“Put it this way: if you visit the McLaren Technology Centre on a Saturday or a Sunday this winter, you won’t find many free car parking spaces!

“Our chassis is a very good one – all the data bears that out. Our driver line-up is the best in the sport – the stats prove that.

“Our partnership with Honda is a new one, or a freshly renewed one to be precise, and it’s not remotely surprising that it should be taking a little while to gel. That’s what Formula One is like, and it always has been.”

I'm still the right fit for McLaren - Dennis
