British GP headlines Channel 4’s F1 live races

Britain’s new Formula One broadcaster Channel 4 has revealed the 10 races it will show live in 2016, with the British Grand Prix featuring amongst the selected events.

The free-to-air channel is taking over the rights in the UK following the BBC’s decision to terminate its TV contract with FOM for cost-saving reasons. Channel 4 and Sky will follow on the same lines of what has been done in recent years, with the subscription-based service still airing all sessions live.

Meanwhile, the new broadcaster, which has already added David Coulthard to its roster, has picked the 10 events that it wants to show live and will cover the remaining 11 races in a highlights show.

Channel 4’s live coverage will start at the Bahrain Grand Prix, round two of this year’s championship, while also including the inaugural race in Azerbaijan as well as the season finale in Abu Dhabi. The Monaco Grand Prix is the most notable absentee in the list.

“We are delighted to announce the full line up of races we will be showing live across 2016,” Channel 4 Head of Formula One Stephen Lyle said upon the announcement.

“The British Grand Prix is a huge highlight of the sporting calendar and we're looking forward to covering all the action live from Silverstone this summer.”

Here are the 10 grands prix shown live on Channel 4:

Bahrain - April 1-3
Spain - May 13-15
Europe - June 17-19
Britain - July 8-10
Hungary - July 22-24
Belgium - August 26-28
Italy - September 2-4
Malaysia - September 30 - October 2
Mexico - October 28-30
