Sainz disappointed with Ferrari depiction in 'Drive to Survive'

Carlos Sainz says Ferrari are "cooler, bigger and better" than how they were depicted in Season 3 of the Netflix series 'Drive to Survive'.

The popular ten-episode documentary that chronicles the Formula 1 season with a captivating behind-the-scenes approach has been credited as being one of the main catalysts behind the sport's exponential growth in the US.

Speaking about the development of Ferrari's own fan base in the US, Sainz regretted how the Scuderia was presented in Season 3 of 'Drive to Survive', lamenting the narrative surrounding the Italian outfit which endured in 2020 one of the worst campaigns in its history.

"The season three episode about Ferrari is not so great, and I was relatively disappointed when I watched it because Ferrari is a lot cooler, a lot bigger, a lot better, than how it appears," Sainz told American monthly magazine GQ.

"We were just going through a rough patch, and I think all great teams in every single sport go through difficult years. And now we are on our way back up.

"We are doing everything we can to make this team great again and champions again, and I think we have a really good team atmosphere going on with Charles and the engineers, and we are a serious contender for the future.

"And I mean, it's Ferrari – who doesn't like Ferrari in normal life?"

Fortunately, Ferrari has turned around its fortunes this season which has allowed the House of Maranello to battle for a spot on the Constructors' podium along with top midfield rival McLaren.

Sainz's teammate Charles Leclerc also made the case for why Ferrari is worthy of the fans' support.

"For me, Ferrari is the most iconic team ever in Formula 1," said the Monegasque.

"They've achieved so much and have been there from the beginning. They're such an incredible team, and have had most of the legends of the sport."
