The eight driver substitutions for Abu Dhabi FP1

Seven young drivers and one not so young charger will take to the track in free practice in Abu Dhabi on Friday, with only Mercedes and AlphaTauri relying on the regular line-up for the session.

Several teams will be completing their mandatory young driver programmes at Yas Marina, while others will be sitting out the day's first session for the first time this season.

First up, Aston Martin rookie Felipe Drugovich will make his public F1 debut with team Silverstone, with Lance Stroll watching from the sidelines.

Over at Alfa Romeo, F1 veteran Robert Kubica will be back behind the wheel of the Hinwil squad's C42, and the outing might be the Pole's final career appearance in an official F1 session.

Red Bull has entrusted its RB18 to junior driver Liam Lawson for the second time this season, while Max Verstappen will sit out the sixty-minute session.

Ferrari has handed Robert Shwartzman his second workout on 2022 as scheduled, with Carlos Sainz sitting out the session.

Alpine has earmarked Jack Doohan for FP1, also for the second time this year, allwoing Fernando Alonso to enjoy an extra hour of shut eye.

McLaren's IndyCar charger Pato O'Ward succeeds Alex Palou as the Woking-based outfit's young driver representative, with Lando Norris watching from the team's garage.

Haas' long-standing reserve Pietro Fittipaldi has been slot in in place of Mick Schumacher.

And finally, Williams junior Logan Sargeant gets his third FP1 outing today, the young American subbing for Nicholas Latifi.
