Lewis Hamilton says his ability to bounce back from the low of the Spanish Grand Prix has been key to his recent strong form.
The defending champion had yet to win a race when he collided with team-mate Nico Rosberg on the opening lap in Barcelona, with both cars retiring as a result. Hamilton has since said there are secrets from that weekend which he will keep to himself until he retires, but he cites his ability to recover quickly as central to the turnaround in the standings since then.
"Honestly ... I feel like if I didn’t have some of the problems that I have had, Shanghai for example - I feel like I would have won in Shanghai," Hamilton said. "And where else? Russia for example, I had great pace there and Nico won.
"It would have been more wins, but I would definitely say through that rough patch I was going through in terms of reliability, that was definitely hard to handle. It is hard to handle when you want to win a World Championship as much as I want to win the World Championship [again].
"But I really feel since that low after Barcelona, I feel like I was able to cultivate a very, very positive and a strong mental attitude and that is what I have today and that is why I have won whatever it is now out of how many races and I plan to continue."
Hamilton's form has seen him win four of the last five races, cutting Rosberg's advantage from 43 points following the Spanish Grand Prix to just one point at present.
