Palmer to miss qualifying with cracked chassis

Jolyon Palmer will not take part in qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix after Renault found a crack in his chassis.

The Briton had been competitive in FP3, finishing the session 14th overall and 0.4s clear of team-mate Kevin Magnussen. However, Palmer will not take part in Saturday afternoon's qualifying session as Renault needs to change his chassis ahead of the race.

Renault used both car crews to work on trying to fix the damage but ran out of time ahead of the start of qualifying at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Palmer's future at Renault is currently uncertain, with Nico Hulkenberg already signed to drive for the team in 2017 and Esteban Ocon tipped as a potential candidate to join the German.
