Magnussen predicts Red Bull will upset Mercedes

Haas' Kevin Magnussen believes that if there is one team which can put a stop to Mercedes' dominance, it's Red Bull Racing.

The Dane is predicting that the Milton Keynes squad will give the Silver Arrows more tha just a run for their money in 2017.

"Red Bull will be the big surprise," Magnussen said.

"So that should be interesting to have not only one team fighting for the wins. Hopefully Ferrari will be stronger as well."

As for his own prospects this year, Magnussen insists that Haas is still very much a work in progress, and one which lacks the huge ressources enjoyed by the teams at the front of the grid.

"Our biggest challenge is going to be to extract everything and understand it properly because we are a small team and we don't have enough people yet to throw analysis on everything and get everything analysed," he added.

"So we will have to work really hard to try and get the most out of what we have, which I hope and think will be a good package."

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
