Willi Weber unimpressed with Formula 1 takeover

Willi Weber, the man who famously steered the career of Michael Schumacher, is doubtful of Formula 1's future under Liberty Media's guidance.

While many believe in the American company's credentials in the digital field and its ability to add value to the sport, Weber isn't sure a US grip on F1 is necessarily good news.

"The Americans make a circus out of every sport," he told Germany's Sport Bild.

"Now they'll want to make every race a big event, inviting famous actors and letting the spectators get closer to the audience than in the Bernie (Ecclestone) era.

"But the Americans will never fight for a Formula 1 ticket -- they would just rather go somewhere else. So I think that the premium feeling about F1 will be lost.

"The new owners have no racing feeling -- they just want to make money," Weber added.

While he was at it, Weber also offered his opinion on Sebastian Vettel's current state of affairs with Ferrari, where the German has failed to emulate up to now Schuacher's  remarkable achievements.

"If it is not much better this season, then Vettel must go. Even when they (Ferrari) pour wine at lunch again, it is clear -- no more," concluded the 74-year-old manager.
