As we enter the Canadian Grand Prix week, one can not help but spare a thought for the late Gilles Villeneuve, whose swashbuckling style behind the wheel during his all-too-short F1 career made him a hugely popular figure. Gilles’ maiden win in the sport came on home soil at Circuit Île Notre-Dame in 1978. The track was renamed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 1982 to honour the memory of the Ferrari icon, who had died at Zolder one month earlier.
