Slow aero progress at McLaren
McLaren has – finally – managed to sample a “monkey seat” winglet on its new 2015 challenger. This indicates that the British team has started to shift its attention to the car’s aerodynamics (the second phase of pre-season testing). Since last year, the F1 technical regulations specify that any piece of bodywork cannot line up with the car’s exhaust but do allow components to appear above or underneath said exhaust. Refining the “monkey seat” has thus grown more and more essential in order to make up for lost downforce after the beam wing was prohibited.
