As announced on Tuesday, McLaren has revealed its revised MP4-30 livery, which Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button will sport for the first time during this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

As planned, the Woking-based team has dropped the chrome hue and replaced it with what a McLaren spokesperson described as a “dynamic, predatory, graphite-grey colouration”.

Ron Dennis hinted at a livery change as early as the first pre-season test when fans expressed disappointment at the little impact Honda's return had had on the car's colour scheme.

The McLaren chairman explained at the time that only fresh commercial opportunities will result in design tweaks.

“Yes we could change colour,” said Dennis in Jerez. “Yes we could do something more daring. Yes we could do all these things. But give me a reason why?

“If it is just to make something more aesthetically pleasing, that is not enough reason for me.”

However, the team revealed on Tuesday that the MP4-30's livery had been changed with a view to “improving its visual impact, optimising it for not only bright sunshine but also for the floodlights used in twilight and night races.”
