Winners Leclerc and Albon help boost fundraiser to $48k

Charles Leclerc and Alex Albon reaped the laurels in Tuesday evening's second installment of the 'Race of the World' series, boosting the fundraising's money pot to over $48,000.

The six-race virtual series that kicked off last week was put together by a group of drivers led by Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris with the target of raisin $100,000 for the World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Relief Fund.

The first race on Tuesday night unfolded at Spa after a technical glitch forced everyone to re-run the qualifying session, with Luca Albon launching the filed from pole.

But Alex Albon's younger brother was overhauled by Leclerc and Norris on the run up to Les Combes.

The two men fought it out among themselves, and Norris attempted to undercut the Ferrari driver, but traffic undermined his strategy, leaving Leclerc to win the round from Norris, Christian Lundgaard, Arthur Leclerc and Stoffel Vandoorne.

In the evening's second round, held in Baku, Red Bull's Alex Albon beat Ferrari's Leclerc who took advantage of an opening lap crash at the first corner to jump from 10th to second.

Luca Albon inherited the third spot on the podium after Arthur Leclerc, Antonio Giovinazzi and Antonio Felix da Costa all spun out of third place.

The final two battles for the 'Race for the World' series will take place on Friday night at 6pm UK time (7pm CET).
