Eddie Jordan will take on a role with BBC show Top Gear following the end of the broadcaster's F1 coverage.

The BBC has been putting together a new Top Gear team following the departures of the show's previous presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. It has now been confirmed that former F1 team owner Jordan will join main presenter Chris Evans as well as a pool of other contributors made up of Sabine Schmitz, Chris Harris, Matt LeBlanc and Rory Reid.

“I have such enormous respect for all my fellow presenters and I politely ask that they go easy on these old bones,” Jordan told the BBC.

The Irishman had been a pundit on the BBC's coverage since 2009 until the BBC terminated its deal to cover Formula 1 early, with Channel 4 taking over free-to-air rights in the UK in December.

While David Coulthard will be part of the Channel 4 coverage, former presenter Suzi Perry has already confirmed she will not be part of either the F1 coverage or the new Top Gear.
