Nico Hulkenberg has made clear that he would like team mate Sergio Perez to remain with Force India next season.
Perez has been the subject of much speculation lately, with rumors putting the Mexican at Renault next year, while Williams may also be vying for his services.
Although the 26-year-old is contracted to Force India for 2017, he agreement with Vijay Mallya's outfit apparently includes an escape clause which authorizes his sponsors to eventually place him with another team.
"I don't know what Checo's going to do," Hulkenberg told Autosport when asked about his team mate's current dealings.
"As a team we're working together pretty well, pushing each other hard to the team's benefit.
"It's a good, competitive, tough environment, but in a positive way so I would very much like to see him stay."
While Hulkenberg's contract with Force India extends to 2017, the German is always on the lookout for an opportunity to move up the grid.
"It's all about timing. You've got to be in the right place in the right moment, and so far that hasn't been the case.
"Many people have had to wait a long time to get their opportunity, so there's no point in giving in.
A veteran of 106 Grand Prix, Hulkenberg has his feet firmly on the ground when assessing his future, and is quite happy with his current environment.
"I've learned in all my years in F1 that as a driver you are relying on a lot of other people making decisions that go your way or go against you, so I'm not breaking my head about that too much at the moment.
"What is important for me is that I'm enjoying what I do and that I'm having fun, which is the case. I love what I'm doing, and in that respect I'm comfortable and in a good situation. I'm a very happy man."
