Singapore should suit Toro Rosso ‘a lot better’ - Kvyat

Daniil Kvyat is confident Toro Rosso will fare “a lot better” at this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix than in the latest rounds of the Formula One championship.

The Faenza-based team was a regular Q3 and top-10 contender up until the summer break but it is coming off a trio of scoreless races in Germany, Belgium, and Italy.

Kvyat explains that Toro Rosso’s year-old Ferrari engine is starting to show its age, especially at power tracks like Spa and Monza, but the Russian believes the James Key-designed STR11 chassis remains competitive at tight and twisty venues like Marina Bay Circuit.

“In theory this track should suit us quite a lot better because every time we are on full throttle we are losing time, a lot of time, so here that should be minimised a lot less of this driving but more about driving in the corners,” Kvyat said.

“We know that our car is a lot more competitive in the corners than the straights, so we will try to make it work and make the best use out of it and hopefully we will bring something good home.”

Toro Rosso introduced a new aero package at Hockenheim but the team has not been fully satisfied with it and even fears it could partly explain its recent drop in performance.

Kvyat confirms that Toro Rosso will once again test both its old and new setup this coming Friday, having already done so in free practice for the Italian Grand Prix.

“They’re two different tracks to compare so we will see how we will go here, but we will do further analysis and we will decide [which one we race].”
