Brown set to choose between McLaren and F1 roles

Zak Brown is set to choose between replacing Ron Dennis at McLaren and taking on a role helping with the running of F1, according to reports.

The American businessman has been linked with a role working for Liberty Media - currently in the process of taking over F1 - since he left as Chief Executive of CSM Sport & Entertainment in September.

Brown was also linked with McLaren and following the departure of former CEO and chairman Ron Dennis, the McLaren Technology Group has confirmed it "is now in the process of seeking a new Chief Executive Officer".

Both The Times and Sky Sports report Brown has now been offered the role at McLaren, but is left with the choice of becoming the boss of one of the biggest teams in F1 or overseeing the running of a section of the sport itself.

At present, McLaren is going to be "run on an interim basis by an Executive Committee comprising the Group's majority shareholders" until a new CEO is appointed. The Times report claims Brown has 48 hours to make up his mind on whether to take the McLaren offer or not.

It was Sky's City Editor Mark Kleinman who reported Dennis' had lost a High Court attempt to secure an injunction preventing McLaren from putting him on gardening leave last week. His departure followed a reported £1.65bn bid from a consortium of Chinese investors which Dennis presented to McLaren. However, Kleinman reported at the time it was "a move which prompted his fellow shareholders to launch a plot to oust him as chief executive."
