Palmer confident Magnussen 'will do well' at Haas

Jolyon Palmer believes his soon-to-be ex-Renault team-mate Kevin Magnussen “will do well” with the Haas F1 Team.

The Danish driver has joined the US outfit on a multi-year deal, after turning down an offer from the French manufacturer due to what he perceived as “a lack of commitment”.

Palmer, who has been retained by Renault for 2017, will have partnered Magnussen for a single season but this has been enough for the Briton to acknowledge his future rival’s qualities.

“Kevin’s a good guy, a great racer and fun to work with,” Palmer said. “I think we’ve worked well together this year when we’ve known we’ve had to push to get the most out of the car.

“I think he’ll do well at Haas and I’m looking forward to racing against him in different coloured cars next season.”

Despite Magnussen’s remarks about Renault, team principal Frederic Vasseur shares Palmer’s sentiment about the 24-year-old.

“We’d like to thank [Kevin] for his efforts this year as we know it hasn’t been always the easiest,” the Frenchman said.

“We’d love to see him end his final race for us in the points and we wish him well for the future as he is a very talented driver.”

Both Magnussen and Palmer are set to have a more experienced team-mate in 2017, with the Dane partnered with Romain Grosjean while the Briton welcomes Nico Hulkenberg from Force India.
