'A lot to do’ to prepare for 2017-spec cars - Kvyat

Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat admits he is going to have a busy training schedule in order to get ready for faster 2017-spec Formula One cars over the winter.

Next year’s regulations will see the introduction of wider, more aggressive-looking machines, with lap times expected to be up to five seconds quicker than at present. The radical aero and tyre changes partly came after criticisms about current cars being allegedly too easy to drive.

Despite a tough 2016 campaign that saw his F1 future grow bleak at times, Kvyat has been confimed at Toro Rosso for 2017 and the Russian is determined to leave no stone unturned in his preparation.

“I had a talk with my trainer the other day wow, there's really a lot to do to get ready for next year, but I like it a lot it's an additional challenge to face,” Kvyat said ahead of the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Team-mate Carlos Sainz, who will return for a third season with the Faenza-based outfit in 2017, is equally excited by the prospect of racing cars that are expected to be physically demanding.

“I’m very happy that being in good shape will make a bit more of a difference,” the Spaniard said. “I can't wait. It won't be a boring winter, there will be no time to hang around without doing anything!”
