Sauber drivers Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr hope the updated rear wing on their C35s will deliver a performance boost for this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

In the wake of Sauber’s financial difficulties, updates have been few and far between on the Swiss outfit’s latest challenger. Sauber did manage to introduce a new spec of rear wing at Silverstone, which features revised endplates.

Still looking to score its first points this season, the Hinwill-based team plans on further assessing the evolution in Budapest, a venue where it showed solid pace in 2015 with Ericsson claiming ninth.

“Looking back to last year’s Hungarian Grand Prix, my memories are not too bad,” the Swede said. “I was able to score one point by finishing the race in the top ten. We had a decent pace in the race, and I hope we can achieve a similar result this season.

“It is good that we continue our tests with the new rear in order to proceed with our aero evaluation. It will be important to compare the data we collected from Silverstone to that we will gather in Budapest.”

Team-mate Nasr nearly made it two Saubers in the top 10 at the Hungaroring 12 months ago. The Brazilian, who has shown improved form across recent races, hopes to extend his current positive momentum.

“Last year at the Hungaroring we were stronger than expected in the race – with P11 I was close to the points. Now I am looking forward to get a first taste of the Sauber C35-Ferrari with the new rear wing”, Nasr said.

With Manor picking up a point in Austria with Pascal Wehrlein, Sauber remains the only team yet to score this year.
