Haryanto and management to fight for Manor seat

Rio Haryanto and his management are resolute on preserving the young Indonesian's seat with Manor Racing when the season resumes at Spa at the end of the month.

Haryanto's initial funding guaranteed his race seat with the British team up the Hungarian GP, while an extension was granted for last weekend's German GP in Hockenheim.

But for him to be in the car at Spa and for the remainder of the year, Haryanto and his management now have four weeks to attempt to secure additional financial backing.

"It will be quite a busy summer break for me," said Haryanto.

"We need to find some financial support from some sponsors.  My management are currently working very hard, we're going to have a few meetings over the next couple of weeks and hopefully there is good news coming out of it.

"I'm disappointed. It's not easy as there is still a doubt as to what is going to happen in the future. I believe in my management and they are currently working hard to secure the seat for the whole season."

Lurking in the wings in the event that Haryanto fails in his quest is Mercedes protégé and Renault reserve driver Esteban Ocon.

The Frenchman appears to be in the best position to take over from Haryanto and race alongside fellow Mercedes-supported driver Pascal Wehrlein.

McLaren-Honda reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne has also been mentioned as a potential replacement, but Mercedes' engine deal with Manor obviously provides the German manufacturer with more clout with regard to naming a successor to Haryanto.
