Rosberg out to erase painful memory of 2015 USGP

Formula One points leader Nico Rosberg says he travels to this weekend’s United States Grand Prix with the intention of “getting it right this time”, as the Mercedes driver looks to erase the memory of his 2015 title defeat.

Twelve months ago, Rosberg was leading a wild wet-to-dry race in Austin when he slithered off road and allowed through team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who went on to win the race and seal his third crown.

The German is in a much better place this year, heading for the Circuit of the Americas with a 33-point advantage over his British rival.

“We've got four more races left of this season for everyone to hopefully enjoy some great action on track - starting of course in Austin this weekend,” Rosberg said. “It's a great circuit, with some really challenging sections and a few good opportunities for overtaking.

“Last year this race obviously didn't work out so great for me, so I'm looking forward to getting back out there and doing my best to get it right this time.

“Hopefully we won't have the same weather as last year - that was pretty crazy! Mostly I hope it stays dry for the fans: they were amazing waiting out in the rain last time, so they're owed a nice dry weekend I think!”

Only the Drivers’ championship remains up for grabs in 2016 after Mercedes won its third consecutive Constructors’ title at the Japanese Grand Prix. Rosberg says he enjoyed the celebrations at the team’s Britain-based engine and chassis factories.

“It was a great week, heading back to the U.K. with the Constructors' championship in the bag and celebrating with all our colleagues at Brackley and Brixworth.

“They've worked so hard and really deserve this moment. It's job done in that battle for this year - but I know they're already focused on 2017.”
