While beating a team mate in the final championship standings is the basic aim of any driver, achieving such a feat hasn't provided Daniil Kvyat with much fulfillment.
The young Russian, who graduated from Toro Rosso to Red Bull this year, headed team mate Daniel Ricciardo in the drivers' standings by three points, scoring a final point with a 10th place finish in Abu Dhabi.
Kvyat's race last Sunday looked promising in the first half but an electronic issue hampered his progress thereafter, especially his straight-line speed. in the end, he considered himself lucky to see the checkered flag.
"It was good we managed to finish with all the issues. Almost every lap we had to do something about our electronic issues, so under the circumstances, we did absolutely the best job we could today and I’m happy about that."
On a relative basis, Daniel Ricciardo was Kvyat's benchmark this season. But beating his team mate in the championship standings was a satisfaction the Russian refused to proclaim, as he focused on his own merits and his room for improvement.
"My real aim was to do the best I could at every race, and from that point of view I'm not too happy. There were just too many ups and downs. For 2016 we need to eliminate those down and make steps forward as a team."
