Max Verstappen will add another award to his growing collection, with the Red Bull ace set to win this year's prestigious Trofeo Lorenzo Bandini, per multiple reports.

Launched in 1992 by Bandini’s home town of Brisighella in Italy, the annual prize rewards an admirable motor racing achievement in memory of the former grand prix winner, who succumbed to the heavy injuries he sustained in a crash at the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix.

Past recipients of the award includes F1 world champions Jacques Villeneuve, Jenson Button, Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, and Lewis Hamilton as well as Verstappen’s team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.

The Dutch teenager will succeed two-time Constructors’ world champions Mercedes, having taken the sport by storm since making his historic debut with Toro Rosso at the tender age of 17 in 2015.

Not only did Verstappen become the youngest driver to compete in F1, he quickly added youngest points scorer to his credentials while displaying an uncanny knack for pulling off spectacular overtaking moves.

The 18-year-old was promoted to Red Bull’s main team after only four races this year and duly went on to become the youngest grand prix winner in history at the very next event in Spain.
