It's almost time for one of the most gruelling and spectacular races on the Formula One calendar - the SIngapore Grand Prix, held under the floodlights of Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Nico Rosberg has claimed pole position for Mercedes with an absolutely dominating performance in qualifying on Saturday, while Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo pulled off a late upset with a lap good enough to boost him onto the front row for the start of today's race.

That pushed Lewis Hamilton down to third place on the grid. Hamilton's not been having a good weekend as a whole, struggling to get to grips with the set-up and then hampered by a hydraulic issue in Friday's second practice that cost him crucial track time just when he needed it the most. Hamilton might still be in the lead of the world championship, but that could all change today as his advantage over Rosberg is down to two points.

Hamilton will also be worried that he could find himself in a Red Bull sandwich when the lights go out for the start of the race. Max Verstappen will be starting alongside Hamilton in fourth place, and both Red Bulls have a further potential advantage in that they will be starting on the longer-life supersoft compound while everyone else in the top ten will be sporting purple-rimmed ultrasofts for the first stint.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen cuts a solitary figure on the grid ahead of the two Toro Rossos of Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat. Raikkonen's team mate - and last year's race winner - Sebastian Vettel is all the way at the back of the grid after a technical failure in Q1 left him unable to set a representative lap in qualifying. Since he'll be starting from the back anyway, the team have opted to give him a new gearbox and power unit elements for todays race since the penalties can hardly push him any further down the grid.

Haas F1's Romain Grosjean also has a gearbox penalty and will start from 20th place following his bruising accident in qualifying. There was controversy when Force India's Sergio Perez was seen to overtake under the ensuing yellow flags, and sure enough the Mexican driver has been handed an eight place penalty for ignoring waved yellow flags and overtaking under yellow which puts him down to 17th on the grid.

That leaves three cars out of place and desperate to mount a comeback drive today - but it won't be easy, as Singapore is a hard place to overtake. It certainly all makes for an exciting set-up for the Grand Prix.

The race gets underway at 20:00 local time (1pm BST), and of course you can follow everything as-it-happens with F1i's live commentary page. If you have any questions and comments about the events, you can even submit them and we'll try and answer them during the hour.
