Williams wants to deliver first win to Bottas

Deputy team principal Claire Williams believes the Grove-based outfit should be the team which provides Valtteri Bottas with his first Grand Prix win.

While Bottas' future officially remains undecided, with the Finn still linked with a move to Renault, the most reasonable prospect is that he will remain with Williams and race in 2017 alongside rookie Lance Stroll.

It is a known fact that Bottas has been disappointed by Williams' performance year-to-date as the Finn was hoping to compete for his first outright win this year.

Bottas' eroding patience has not been lost on Claire Williams who, in an interview with Autosport, expressed her will and hope of supplying her driver in the near future with a car worthy of his talent.

"As I keep saying to him, I can't wait to give him a car that he can win a race in," Williams said.

"He started his career with us, he has given us a lot of his time, he's stuck by us and he's been loyal to the team in good times and bad.

"So I want Williams to be the team that gives him his first race win - that is the objective at the moment. He has been strong this year, but he always is.

Bottas has outscored his Williams team mates in the world championship since his maiden F1 season in 2013, and is currently ahead of Felipe Massa this year by 38 points.

"You know that when he gets in that car, closes his visor, and goes out on track, he's always going to deliver. He's so calm and smooth.

"It's been a big year for Valtteri as well, he's done a good job, he's delivered a lot of points for the team, he's really dependable."

He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
