Ricciardo voted Driver of the Day for German GP

Daniel Ricciardo has been voted Driver of the Day for the German Grand Prix after the Red Bull ace claimed a strong second place at Hockenheim.

Having qualified third behind the Mercedes duo, the Australian was overtaken by his team-mate Max Verstappen at the first corner though he managed to overhaul the slow-starting Nico Rosberg in the same spot.

Ricciardo really came to life in the second half of the race where he displayed very quick pace on the supersoft tyre to get past Verstappen and chase eventual winner Lewis Hamilton.

The 27-year-old secured his third podium finish of the season, his second in as many weekends after the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest.

Ricciardo thus becomes the third Red Bull driver to pick up the Driver of the Day Award after Daniil Kvyat won the fan vote in China while Max Verstappen already has four accolades to his name following impressive showings in Spain, Canada, Austria, and Britain.

The Driver of the Day award has been introduced this season as a way to increase fan engagement. Other previous awardees this season are Haas' Romain Grosjean in Australia and Bahrain, Renault's Kevin Magnussen in Russia, and Force India's Sergio Perez in Monaco and Baku.
