Felipe Massa says Williams has to watch out for Ferrari due to the “incredible lap times” it was posting during Friday practice.
Mercedes topped the times in both sessions, with Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen third and fourth in FP2 on the lower fuel runs. Massa was forced to sit out the second session with a water leak and having spent the time analysing the lap times he says Ferrari’s race pace was surprising.
“I saw Ferrari was doing incredible lap times on the long run so we need to really open our eyes completely for them as well,” Massa said. “But now we need to analyse where we are compared to the others and I think tomorrow we will be sure - especially after qualifying - exactly where we are.”
Focusing on what he learned during FP2, Massa says he feels Ferrari is Williams’ main rival for a podium spot.
“Actually it was an interesting session to see that Mercedes is out of the way, Ferrari is much better and we are there in the fight, and maybe Red Bull didn’t show the same that we saw many times last year. So I think that’s what I saw in the session but things can change for tomorrow.”
