2019 British Grand Prix Guide + Info:

Silverstone has been modified in recent years but it remains a thrilling high-speed test of both a car and driver. The first test comes with the new Abbey - which is now Turn 1 - which is a fast right-hander followed by a sweeping left before the slow speed Village complex. The Wellington Straight rejoins the old track before the left-hander at Brooklands followed by the tricky Luffield, leading out to the old final corner of Woodcote. Copse - previously the first corner - remains a fast right hander which shows off the full performance of an F1 car, before the spectacular high-speed changes of direction at Maggotts and Becketts. Stowe offers an overtaking opportunity at the end of the Hangar Straight, before a final slow section at Club leads back to the pit straight.

DESTINATION GUIDE

Silverstone is right in the middle of Britain’s motorsport valley, and with so many teams within an hour of the circuit, and chances are you’ll drive past a factory or two on your way to the track. Naturally most of the attractions therefore revolve around motorsport, with so many team factories and suppliers in the area.

The track is named after the nearby Silverstone village, which tells you this is not a city location. The nearest town is Towcester - 8km to the north - which is a small market town more famed for its racecourse but has a few pubs and restaurants. There are further options in Buckingham, which is 10km to the south and of a similar size.

The much larger town of Northampton is a short drive away, with plenty more to do for sports fans with the professional rugby and football sides in the town, as well as a county cricket side. With part of the Silverstone circuit actually located in Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes is also nearby, which offers plenty of activities, including the huge Xscape ski slope.

As well as the options in Milton Keynes, shoppers can also find a way of passing the time (and emptying the wallet) at Bicester Village, just off the M40 to the west of Silverstone.

As all of the above suggests, Silverstone is best accessed by car and offers little in the immediate vicinity most of the time, but during race week the campsites turn the circuit into a town itself. Many fans opt to camp for the full weekend, with live music and a number of designated events for those staying at the circuit.

HOW TO GET THERE

Silverstone is a relatively easy place to visit, sitting between the M40 and M1 motorways, allowing easy access from London, Birmingham and the North. As a result, flying to either Birmingham, East Midlands, London Luton, London Heathrow or London Stansted airports will leave a drive of no more than two hours.

Trains into Northampton are frequent from both London and Birmingham, where shuttle buses run to the circuit.
