The Circuit de Catalunya will host the Spanish Grand Prix until 2019 after signing a new contract.
The previous deal was set to end following the 2016 edition of the race, but a new three-year contract has been confirmed which will see the grand prix remain at the circuit just outside Barcelona. With the announcement coming during the weekend of the 25th race to be held at the Circuit de Catalunya, spokesperson Vicenc Aguilera says it is the perfect time to extend its deal.
“We are extremely proud to announce this renewal in such a special year, marking the 25th anniversary of Formula 1 Grands Prix being hosted uninterruptedly at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya," Aguilera said. “We thus extend this fruitful relationship with Formula One and we look forward to the next 25 years.”
The circuit has hosted the Spanish Grand Prix since 1991, and is also regularly used for pre-season testing.
