Nico Rosberg says victory in the Spanish Grand Prix capped off “the perfect weekend” as he won for the first time in 2015.
Saturday saw Rosberg end Lewis Hamilton’s dominance of qualifying this season, and the Mercedes driver duly converted pole in to his first win of the year. Following the victory, Rosberg said it had been a smooth weekend for him which has boosted his confidence after cutting Hamilton’s championship lead by seven points.
“It was the perfect weekend, great to be on pole and then to win the race like this, I’m very, very happy,” Rosberg said. “Also thanks to the team, the car has been perfect all weekend so it’s really great.
“Finally I got the great start as well which has been a while coming, but today it worked out really well.”
Asked about his hopes for the next race in Monaco - where he won last year - Rosberg said he will not get ahead of himself before he has celebrated his win.
“I’m just enjoying the day today. Winning here in Barcelona was great and I will enjoy that with the team tonight.”
