Even for anyone who's anyone, the coveted and magic Formula 1 paddock pass has never been an easy credential to obtain.
Given the hassle, one often wonders while roaming the exclusive enclosure how some unknown strange characters or hanger-ons were granted the precious invite during the Ecclestone era.
Indeed, the question was also often asked by ex-F1 drivers who had been denied access by the former F1 supremo.
"There are times I would have come to a race," one former Grand Prix driver said.
"But it was just so much hassle getting a pass."
Those times are now ending, according to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.
The report claims new F1 owner Liberty Media will make paddock passes available to any former drivers who wants one, on simple request.
But there is a small catch however: the drivers who take up the offer will have to understand their role as "an ambassador for the sport", and make themselves available for interviews and autographs.
Sounds reasonable if you ask us.
