Fernando Alonso kicked off his preparation for the Indy 500 by topping the two-hour rookie and refreshers test session this morning at Indianapolis.
Alonso was clocked at the Brickyard in his McLaren-Honda-Andretti Autosport Dallara at 221.634 mph, edging out fellow Spaniard Oriol Servia in his Honda-powered Rahal Letterman Lanigan entry.
Ed Jones was third fastest while Jay Howard was fourth for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
The usual field of Indycar drivers made their entry this afternoon for the first day of practice.
