MotoGP world champion Nicky Hayden, who was in extremely critical condition following a bicycle accident last week, has died has announced the American rider's family.
The 35-year-old racer collided with a car while cycling on the Rimini coastline in Italy, sustaining traumatic head injuries.
While no longer racing MotoGP, the former world champion was still active and had raced a week ago in the World Superbike Championship in Italy for Honda's Red Bull Superbike team.
Nicky Hayden is survived by his fiancee Jackie, his parents Earl and Rose, his two brothers Roger Lee and Tommy and two sisters, Jenny and Kathleen.
