Saturday morning's FP3 was a session of smashed records and a proper warm-up for this afternoon's promising qualifying run as Sebastian Vettel led the field.
Ferrari apparently did some productive overnight work on its SF70h with both Scuderia drivers flying in the 60-minute session.
Championship leader Vettel set a best of 1:17.017,the fastets lap ever around the Hungaroring, comfortably edging out team mate Kimi Raikkonen by 0.475s.
Valtteri Bottas was third, but 0.897s behind the red leader, behind the wheel of a W08 that looked slightly unstable around the twisty Hungaroring lay-out .
A state of affairs confirmed by Lewis Hamilton who could perform no better than 6th, a massive 1.417s off the fastest time and just behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen.
McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne was a welcome addition to the top ten in FP3, a result which bodes well both for the Belgian and McLaren before this afternoon's qualifying shootout.
Friday's fastest man, Daniel Ricciardo, was P8, just in front of birthday boy Fernando Alonso, the Red Bull driver's RB13 suffering from apparent hydraulic issues.
Uncertainty grasped the Williams camp as Felipe Massa still appeared to suffer from an illness which started yesterday.
The Grove-based outfit's mechanics were seen frantically working on the Brazilian's car, possibly adjusting the pedals to accommodate Massa's replacement, Williams reserve driver Paul di Resta!
