The Schumacher family karting circuit in Kerpen, where brothers Michael and Ralf launched their motorsport careers, is set to close.
The karting site, located about 30 kilometers from the city of Cologne , has apparently been earmarked for coal mining from 2020 by German company RWE.
"There will be no new kart track," Ralf Schumacher told Kolner Express.
"The joint search with RWE has not led to a new location. It's a shame. Here, tradition and successful youth promotion are dying at the same time."
Michael Schumacher still owns two thirds of the track. The seven-time world champion's assistanta and manager, Sabine Kehm said: "The family is up to date with developments."
