Robert Kubica's amazing F1 comeback efforts could soon be rewarded with a race seat at Williams if events unfold accordingly in the coming days or weeks.
A frantic game of musical chairs involving several drivers could be set to begin following the take-over of Force India by the Lawrence Stroll-led consortium. The end result would be a series of changes and permutations, and potentially a chance for Kubica to return to the grid.
There is practically no doubt that Lance Stroll will leave Williams to join his father's new team, the question however is when this will occur.
On the off chance that such a move is completed in the short-term, at either Monza or Singapore, Williams could entrust its car to its test driver Robert Kubica for the remainder of the season. If that scenario pans out, the Pole is ready to do battle.
"I feel ready because otherwise I would not sign a contract with Williams for this year," he said.
"So it's on my desk that, 'You have to keep being ready and in case something happens, you have to step up'.
"Of course, it is not easy when you have to drive against the top drivers in the middle of the season. Although I have some opportunities to drive the car, you still lack experience, but you have to do it.
"I also think when Williams approached me for this role, they also have no doubts that I can do it. But what's happening currently and a lot of speculation is not affecting myself.
"I'm doing my job and then what the future will bring, we will see."
Through the Grove-based outfit's pre-season and in-season test programmes, the 33-year-old has been able to put extensive mileage under his belt at the wheel of the team's FW41, refining his driving to accommodate his physical limitation.
Should he get the call to return to action in Singapore, a challenging street circuit venue, Kubica feels up to the task.
"In the end, when I said that I could drive, I meant all season," he said.
"So, I know I went through different tests. First with Renault and then with Williams. I'm confident that I could do it."
