Kevin Magnussen believes Fernando Alonso ruined his Italian GP qualifying session following a squabble between the two men in Q2, but the Spaniard begs to differ.
The McLaren and Haas drivers fought wheel to wheel as they entered the first chicane, with Alonso overtaking Magnussen on the outside and then squeezing his opponent on the exit, clearly to prove a point, much to the Dane's displeasure.
"He overtook me into Turn 1 and ruined both of our laps," said Magnussen, who insisted the run-in deprived him of accessing Q3 and of a subsequent good position on Sunday's grid.
"I think 7th - best of the rest, so that's pretty annoying," he said when asked by Sky F1 where he would have likely qualified without the incident.
Both drivers were summoned to the Stewards for a review of the on-track spat, but Alonso had a very different take on the pair's actions, suggesting that Magnussen's ruined lap was of his own making after the Dane had force the issue on the run out of the Parabolica.
"On the out lap we were all together with three or four seconds between cars, in the last moment in sight of Parabolica, he [Magnussen] decide to fill the gap with the car in front and start the lap together," explained the Spaniard.
"So we started the lap together and we reached the first corner together and we ruined both our laps.
"There are many classes of drivers and then there's the Haas ones, who have the third- or fourth-best car of the grid and are out in Q2.
"I got into Q2, which is one of the things that I wanted. For me it doesn't change much because probably I could not be in Q3 with the performance today, but for him I think he could be in Q3 and he decided at the last moment something that maybe isn't very clever."
